How to choose and set a tip distribution method

Choose tip distribution method for your tip pools

Written by Angevie Pié-Gaillardetz

With Agendrix, you have different ways to distribute tips. This article will tell you what they are and how to set them up!

1- How to create a tip pool

From the organization settings, go to « Tip distribution », click « Tip pools » and then click « Add » :

You can then choose between a single-step distribution or a multi-step distribution:

Single distribution: The tip received will be distributed in the same way among everyone included in the tip-sharing group.

Here are the different methods available:

1.1 Individual

Employees submit the tips they have received, and the amount is not divided.

1.2 Fair

Employees submit the tips they receive, and the amount is divided equally among the employees who were working.

💡Employees will be able to add their tip when they clock out.

1.3 Points

Tips are divided according to the number of points assigned to a position and then multiplied by the number of hours worked in each position.

1.4 Percentage

Tips are divided according to the percentage associated with each position and based on the hours worked in each position.

Multi-step distribution: The tip will go through a series of steps. This allows the tip received to be distributed to certain departments (e.g., the kitchen) differently than, say, the service tip.

For multi-step distribution, you can split the distribution into several steps (up to 3):

For the first step or the first two steps, you can distribute the tip based on tips received and/or sales made (if this option is enabled).

For the final step, the distribution methods are the same as for a simple distribution; the only difference is that the calculation will not be based on the total amount of tips received, but rather on the tips remaining after the first or first two distribution steps.

2. Tip pool by default

You will then be able to set a default convention to use when distributing the tip; this tip pool will be preselected when you make the distribution.

3. Different default tip pools by location

You can choose a different default tip-pool for each location!

After creating your new tip-pool, enable the « Override default tip pool for specific locations or groups » option and select the desired tip-pool for each location.
