How to add recurring allowances, deductions and benefits

Set up an employee’s allowances, deductions and benefits once; they are then added automatically to every payroll.

Written by Yannick Gagné

Rather than adding the same amount to every pay stub, set up a recurring item on the employee’s profile. It will be added automatically to every payroll.

Where to set them up

  1. Open the employee’s profile.

  2. Go to the Compensation tab.

  3. Find the three sections: Benefits, Allowances and Deductions.

Adding a recurring item

  1. In the section you want, click Add. For a benefit, choose Benefit (employee share) or Benefit (employer share).

  2. Choose the type from the list, then name the item.

  3. For a deduction or a benefit, choose the amount type: Dollar amount, Per hour or Percentage. For a percentage, specify the income base (regular earnings, all earnings or total income).

  4. Enter the amount. For a benefit, you can set an annual maximum.

  5. Set the effective period: the start date is required; the end date is optional. With no end date, the item applies indefinitely.

  6. Click Add item.

The frequency is Every payroll — currently the only frequency available.

On the pay stub

On every payroll, the item appears on the pay stub with Every payroll in the Recurrence column.

  • To adjust the amount for a single payroll, open the line on the pay stub and change the amount. Only the amount can be changed.

  • To change or stop the item permanently, go back to Compensation and edit or delete the recurring item. You can also simply give it an end date.
